Try everything new all at once?
Posted by Theoden on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 1:31 AM
Hi folks!

Though I was a modeller for 7 years, I was always strictly "boxstuck".

Now I learn so much more about what You can do with a simple kit.

My question: Should I try all more sophisticated techniques all at once (weathering, fotoetched parts, scratchbuilt, etc. ) or is this a sure way to become desperate and I should try one after another?

What do You think?

Personally, I wouldn't try everything at once, it might be a bit too much.

Here would be my recommendation, others might disagree:

Start a long project in which you will incorporate all the new stuff, but don't be in a hurry to finish it.
At the same time build a few smallish and cheap models on which you learn the new techniques, once you think you got it use the new skills on your long project.

As with everything many of the things talked about here sounds easy and nice, but in reality require quiet a bit of study and care and most of all practice, practice and more practice.

Many of the guys here been going for many years at times when we had no access to PE or AM parts or the internet to swab ideas, tips and easily accessed references. Lots we picked up from older and fellow modellers and naturally trial and error.

I once tried to apply all the techniques I knew to a Motorbike Model, when I was finished I realised that 60% of the kit were still in the Box. Big Smile [:D]

Just my thoughts.

OK, thanks for the advice, MMF!

I guess, I´ll try it that way and practice a little first!

My cousin still has some old kits lying around at home. I´m afraid, they will mysteriously disappear soon...
