I've never experienced any problems gluing small parts to a painted surface with super glue. This would include photoetch pieces and such things as bedrolls, jerry cans, etc. I would, however, agree with the above posters if you are thinking of using super glue to bond heavy or structural components. Might be wise to remove a little of the paint first.

Also be careful if you want to use superglue over a painted area. It will bond the parts but will also eat off the paint.

Model cement works on the principle of melting the plastics together to form a bond. Super glue is a brittle, yet strong chemical bond. If you think about it in terms of layers you’ll see what happens. (plastic-paint-glue-paint-plastic) Your bond will only be as strong as the bond of the paint on the plastic. The superglue may react or mix with the paint, depending on the type of paint you are using, and this will affect the bond strength.

Bottom line: Gluing painted pieces together is not a wise idea, if you want a strong bond.

I know you can't glue (model cement) over painted parts but how about super glues...with this stuff stick to a painted part? I suppose I could just try it but I figured I'd ask and maybe find out more about it...
