Hot Metallic Pen
Posted by MusicCity on Sunday, February 1, 2004 8:37 AM
Anyone ever tried something like this for metallic details?

http://www.craftsetc.com/Store/ShowProduct.aspx?p=708552

It appears to be a burnisher that gets warm and causes the metallic medium to transfer from the foil. I got some of the foil yesterday to try and use on a landing gear strut but didn't think to see if they had the pen. When I got home I started wondering how it would work on models.

HEY,
Never even heard of it. Be nice if it works. If you try it, tell us your results.

I had never heard of it either. I found the foil at Hobby Lobby but didn't look to see if the had the pen. May run out there today and see if they do. It would be pretty handy if it works.

Looks suspiciously like the foil that came with my woodburning kit that I got when I was ten (many, many years ago).

I'd be real careful about the heat on plastic, though.

I'll check it out next time I go to HL.

You are quite possibly right, but just using 2 AA batteries I don't think it would get as hot as a wood burning tool. Could be wrong though.

Yeah, been through the heat and plastic deal. Drying paint on a long, thin piece with a heat gun and left it on for about 2 seconds too long Disapprove [V]
