Rivets?
Posted by Mogwa on Sunday, February 1, 2004 2:34 PM
Anyone have any thoughts on adding 1/35 scale rivits? Also I'm diving back into modelling after a 15 hiatus and wnat to know what kind of CA you all use on your PE sets.

Couple of different methods that I have used for making or adding rivets. A small drop of white glue has worked for me in the past, if it's too large, I just wipe it off and start again. Also a product called Grandt Line makes assorted sized rivets that can be glued in place.

The best CA glue IMO is Zap-A-Gap. But I have used Flash when unable to get any Zap.
Medium consistency seems to be the most effective though occasionally I will use thin.

I take a piece of .015 thousands piano wire, dip it in CA and apply. It's a good idea to draw a line for the rivet placement and use a compass to mark the spacing, that way you'll have a nice, neat row of rivets. Oh, and BTW, Zap-a-Gap is the CA I use too.

Grandt line rivits are great and they produce several different types of bolt heads that work great in 1/35 scale.

will this (white glue) work as well on 1/48 as 1/35? filling seams on a f4f and lost some of the rivets.

Shouldn't be a problem Joe ..... just use a sharp totth pick or a piece or rod to place the drop of glue.

go with sherman,i'm only using white gleu for rivets , apply it with a toothpick or needle , put 3 layers on top ( with me the first one always callaps to almost flat Smile [:)]) you can build it up with layers to the size you want , hope it helps you

Use Dimensional fabric paint. You won't need to add several layers 'cause the first one will remain a bump and not go flat like white glue. Also, they come in hundreds of different colours and you can chose one that will contrast with the colour of the plastic, making it easier on your eyes. Best makes are Tulip and Plaid. You'll find them at Walmart or any good craft stores.
