what's the best way to replicate the detonating cord on jet canopies?

Never have done that myself, but I've thought of using .010 solder wire bent to the appropriate shape, perhaps slightly flattened out, painted and attached with a tack-adhesive. It may be a bit overscale and would take a bit of time to get the right shape and all, but solder is fairly easy to work with and I think it'd look dang good.

I was beginning to think along the same lines. I came across some 34 guage beading wire that may be more to scale for 1/48th

yep it's jewelry wire. Found it while buying my daughter some foam core.

It looks to be under an inch (bet 1/2" & 3/4") in diam. in 1/48th scale. My calipers has it just under .01
