I started using Liquitex Matte varnish a little while ago. It only took one model for me to be sold on it. It can be airbrushed straight from the bottle and gives almost instant results with light application. On the down side, it's not as good as a protection as other finishes. You can scratch it with pressure from your fingernail.
After using the matte varnish for a couple models, I decided to branch out and try satin and high gloss. The satin worked out just like the matte varnish, it went on smoothly and gave great results. However, I haven't figured out how to get the high gloss to work in my favor. It tends to puddle up on itself, even when airbrushed.
I haven't tried the regular gloss yet, but I think the matte and satin varnishes are excellent.
