Interested in building a diorama around a 1-72 P-38. Have been building models for &% years. (Sorry about the static) this will be my first dio. Having trouble scaling from photos or life size objects. Appreciate any and all posts.

Welcome to the Forum puttputt. What trouble are you having? A 1/72 scale model means 1/72 inch equals 1inch in real size. A 6 foot male figure would be 1 inch tall in 1/72 scale. Apply the same math to other objects in your diorama and it will all be to scale in proper proportions. There are scale rulers available if you don't like math, but a calculator will work fine.

Rick got it. To calculate a size for your diorama, divide the life size dimension (in inches, not feet!) by the scale. 6' = 72" = 1" @ 1/72 scale. To convert diorama size to life size, just multiply the height by your scale. 1" @ 1/72 scale = 1 x 72 = 72" life size.
