I have never had the problems with Alclad that were mentioned in the ad.  Alclad as it comes in the bottle is very thin, and I can dial my airbrush way back and get a nice thin coat.  A thin coat is essential to get the best shine with Alclad, but it is not hard to do. I have many friends that use Alclad without problems, and several are model car guys who use it to redo the plated parts in the kit.  Some of them used to send those parts out to commercial rechroming services, but now use Alclad.

Looks like Vallejo is trying to compete with Alclad. I have not used Vallejo's product so can't comment on it but I have no clue as to the complaint in the article about Alclad. I have used Alclad multiple times and  it produces the most realistic metal finish I have seen and is very easy to use. I have read many model car articles where the builder de-chromes the parts and uses Alclad for a realistic chrome finish on very visible parts like bumpers and rims.

Rub SN'J silver powder into Testors gloss white after a 1/2 hr drying time and you will have the best Chrome .
