I would go with method "A". I think doing the dot filters after the salt chipping would help tie in the chipping with the rest of the weathering.

Well, most modelers use sea salt or kosher salt as opposed to table salt, but yeah. Youtube has many  videos on paint chipping with salt.

Salt? As in table salt? Never heard of weathering using salt.

My vote is option A. Mind you, I've never tried option B, but I have seen many demos on salt chipping and they all follow option A. Indeed, option B has never even occurred to me! I would think that the salt would be knocked off the model by the application of the dot filter. As for washes, the salt would attract the paint like raised detail would, and this is probably not the effect you are after.

I am also a firm believer in the modeling adage that there is no one right way to do things. If option B gives you results that appeal to you, then it isn't wrong. You can always test both options on some scrap plastic and compare the results. (I always encourage experimenting).

so im building my book of how to do my models, and for weathering i want to use dot filtering and salt chipping, so my question is what order should i do them,

option A

1 base coat

2 salt

3 camo/top coat

4 remove salt

5 weather with dot filter, washes and such

option B

1 base coat

2 salt

3 camo/top coat

4 weather with dot filter, washes and such

5  remove salt

what do you all think?
