Working with Liquitex for Making the Sea

I am using Liquitex gel medium to create the sea for a diorama. I want a calm, glossy sea. How should I finish it off? Use gloss paint as the final layer? Paint and then top with a thin transparent coat of gloss Liquitex or something else like Realistic Water? Ideas?
