Don't use oils for white streaks and an acrylic sealer

I used white oils (wiped them on a submarine and them took it off somewhat in a streaking pattern) to replicate salt discoloration. Then I airbrushed clear flat acryl to seal everything and the white disappeared! This obviously isn't the way to go.
