How long do you guys wait before clearing an oil wash?

I'm guessing wait until the oil paint dries which will be like a week or more but I can't remember.  Nothing thick, just some panel lines.  I thinned it with Ronsonol and will clear it with Future.

Thanks!

30 min to an hour. If it all wipes off right away wait a bit longer.

I usually do the oil change first while the engine is warm, not hot, then wipe up spills, then the oil filters.

Degrease & steam clean the engine block before the plugs & air filters, don't want to get too greasy do we?

Oh... Wait, Huh?

Oil paints are notorious for taking their time to dry, but that depends on how thick it was applied, what it was thinned with, the surface applied to, humidity, 101 other things you wouldn't even dream of...

I would test an inconspicuous bit, or the bit you did last, (eg the underside?) with q-tip/earbud(?) or white tissue paper wrapped round a cocktail stick.

Key point, does it come away clean, if so test on an inconspicuous bit, or the bit you did last, before committing to the whole model.

My usual mistake is to rush the last bit, & put it on too heavy, so the usual advice is to apply several light mist coats & don't rush it...

I wait about 30 minutes and remove excess oil washes.  For W&N oils, I wait a week and apply a varnish.  For MIG oils, which contain little linseed oil, I wait a couple days and spray a varnish.

Thanks guys. It took about 5 days but I was able to clear it today.  That's painful with no other kit to work on!
