Cockpit masking

I stuff mine full of tissue and then put some masking tape around the edges.

I attach the masked canopy with white glue (Elmers). It allows me to snap the canopy off when I'm done painting. I apply it sparingly to minimize clean up and touch up.

If I am building a closed canopy, I just permanently attach the masked canopy in place before painting. Pulling the mask off the canopy while attached isn't a whole lot more difficult.

oh ya? Elmer's clue works ok? Great.

The good thing is that if a canopy breaks loose, it isn't that hard to glue it back on.

What terrifies me are windows, especially those that glue in from the inside.  If any of those break off during finishing, when the fuselage has been glued together, you have a nightmare on your hands!

I stuff it with moistened facial tissue,or use ellmers glue for a temperary hold.

I am still confused here- are we talking about masking the cockpit or the canopy?

Using the masked canopy, or any other technique, for masking off the cockpit.

I have used the tissue paper stuffing, and also making a cardboard shield cut to size and shape as required.  Sometimes for certain cockpits it has required a sort of box. I have also used such cardboard shields for landing gear openings.

I comendeered a sheet of foam shipping padding from a dumpster that I use on every build.  I just cut it about twice the size of the opening required and stuff it in . For the smaller "holes" I use compressable ear plugs.
