I also find that while bare metal foil allows easier visibility of the framework relief, I do get more glue residue from it than from good masking tape.  However, I find isopropyl alcohol removes the glue reasonably well.

Masking canopys

I've been trying different ways to mask aircraft canopies with varying success. On small scale tape does not allow me to see the framework underneath and for those that do, after a couple of days masked some adhesive often stays stuck to the "glass". Right now the best thing working for me is some old gold colored bare-metal foil that I have, I can at least see the frame work on those small canopy's. But every now and then even it leaves some adhesive. Any other products out there that will work better?
