Rolling Brass for big or little stuff .

Do you want to make a Brass gun tub and don't know how? Do this . Find you a pill or glass bottle . the size smaller than what you need . Tape the brass to it and roll it around the bottle and tape again ,all the way around . . .Soak the bottle in boiling water ! The heat will help anneal the metal slightly  . Bingo . One nice curved non - wrinkly gun tub !

Smaller stuff ( 1/200 and under ) .Use dried up Sharpie and Bic Pen barrels and oi the same thing .Don't forget to let them cool down naturally in fresh air . This has always worked for me since my old uncle showed me how fifty five years ago . That was before Bic and Sharpie though . We used wooden dowels .

I also know there are folks who use Aluminum can metal for these things ( this added after reading the responses ) this is an excellent idea as well .

I use beer can metal. Brass is too valuable.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

An assortment of wood dowels is good too.

Hi Guys,

I bought a PE set from Edward for my 1/48 B-26.   Any advice as how to form/roll the tiny cylinders for the machine gun barrel covers ?  the task looks daunting

Jay Jay,

Try annealing the PE and then rolling them around a drill bit.

Yes, indeed annealing is needed.  Also K&S stock is a bit hard, so annealing that stuff helps too.

I'd like to find one of those old alcohol lamp/burner gadgets. It would be ideal for annealing.  Using a match I find I often need three hands (for match, brass piece, and pliers).

Don,

I keep a small decorative candle (one of those that comes in the glass jar) on my bench. Its great for PE.

Ah, great!  I'll look at their site.

I purchased a small mortar and pestle set there for grinding up pastels as well as two AC to 12V DC converters for my computer fan vented spray booth
