Use of Flory Washes
Posted by plasticjunkie on Friday, August 14, 2015 11:26 AM

I keep hearing only wonderful things about Flory Washes so I gave in and ordered a couple directly from them in the UK.

Just have a couple of questions about this product which as I understand it is water/clay based so I can use it over enamels and lacquers. But can it be used over acrylics like Future or Alclad Aqua Gloss without disturbing the acrylic coat?

Its fine over future, but i have found that on Alclad flat and on Xtracolour enamels, the wash beads up. I have not tried it on the Aqua gloss, but i see no reason it should cause problems to that.

Yes, just make sure the underlying acrylic substrate is well-cured. (I know, you know that)

I've added a drop of detergent to the Flory to help somewhat with the beading Bish mentioned, with some success.

Also use a new brush and don't use that brush for anything else,if the brush has other traces on it,it interacts with the Flory

Thanks Tojo, i really shoul;d take a closer look at that. I wash my brushes in water after i use Flory, but i use the same brushes for enamels, acrylics and oils. That could expalin part of my past issues.

Ernie, just a FYI, I even use a dedicated stirrer for using with my Flory washes.  Experience is a harsh mistress, lol.

I use Q-tips to apply Flory. One side to apply. The other to clean up.

Jeez, is there NOWHERE in the US that sells Flory washes? What would be a suitable substitute in the US?

I bought mine though Sprue Brothers. Some of their stuff is currently listed on the site but not everything I bought, are they dropping the line?

As I understand it, Flory is dropping all US distribution - you'll have to order from the UK I guess. It's a shame, it's great stuff. Every time I find a tool and like it enough to convert, it gets discontinued it seems.

Guys, there is still hope. Flory's delivery is very good, £3.50 flat rate to anywhere in the world for allorders under £60. I know its not as good as habving it in your own contry, but its not a total loss.

Yes the shipping is very affordable. I placed my order a couple of weeks back and I'm still waiting for my two bottles. I know that mail crossing the big pond takes a while.

Thanks Bish, yeah £3.50 isn't bad at all, not much more than shipping from point to point in the States.
