I also use those sharp-ended toothpicks.  The gel (slow set) stuff works fine, with good working time.  The fast, thin stuff must be used fairly fast, but I generally have no problem as long as I do not dilly-dally.  The toothpicks I use are double ended, and I can carve sharpen the ends when they get a big ball on the ends, so I can get at least six or so joints per toothpick, often even more.  They are cheap, and I bought a batch with a neat dispensor, now buy the cheaper box of just the picks.

Yes i have tried it with no success. The CA dries quickly in the pen slots and doesn't flow at all. I ended up with an expensive toothpick  lol
