Putties and Fillers Comparison and Finishing
Posted by DMWilson on Thursday, June 2, 2016 2:35 PM

I have not put together a plastic model in...oh golly...50 years...ever since I discovered wooden models that I could fly, then graduating into wooden scratch builds. So, recently I decided to build the couple Aircraft that my Father flew while in the Air Force and thought I might start with plastic kits. These would be the B-47 and SR-71.

So, in researching all things, including all the great tips and tricks found in these forum pages and on the web site (and the internet in general), I have not found a comparative study or chart for all the different types of putties and fillers available...namely looking at their properties, when and where to use them, ease of finishing and how to get that smooth as glass look when sanding down (I'm thinking rubbing compound).

Getting directly to it now, has anyone come across such a site or reference for putties and fillers? And also if anyone knows of links to tutorials on finishing techniques with plastic fillers and putties, I will forever be your best friend.

Thank You in Advance!

I found an excellent " work study" on putties on You tube where the guy used and compared several different kinds.  I don't remember the actual link but I ran across it simply by searching for "model putty" there.

i think your question is too big to be covered simply by a person responding. Search putty in the forum search and you will get a bunch of answers to this question from past inquisitors.

Good luck
