Rear view mirror detail?
Posted by GlennH on Saturday, September 17, 2016 11:24 AM

I was finally able to find #8 of the 9 pieces I was either on or in during my Army stint. The M35A2. In waiting for a few things to arrive from Hobby Link I was looking through the sprues. I see that the rear view mirrors are clear plastic and am wondering what  if anything you folks do to make them look more like a mirror.

The only thing I have come up with is painting the backside silver or chrome followed by an overcoat of OD.

A number Army Viet Nam scans from hundreds yet to be done:

Have had the great fortune to be on every side of the howitzers.

If it's a mirror, I'd paint the whole thing, then apply some chrome mylar or bare metal foil to the face. I'm unsure why they molded it in clear, usually they do that for a light housing.

Some potato chip/snack bags have a chrome silver interior that can be used as the mirror face. I use them also to make round headlights. Just cut to shape and glue with CA or Aleene's.
