HELP HELP HELP
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 23, 2003 6:33 PM
I just spilled yellow acrylic paint on top of my dining table.
I removed most of it, but there's some left in the grains of the wood I can't remove.
Does anybody know how I can manage, before my wife sees it , destroys all my supplies before killing me?

Uh...You're in big trouble dude...

Seriously though, is there a varnish or poly-urethane finish on the table? Your best bet would be to clean it with either the manufacturer's thinner or rubbing alcohol. This may, however, damage the finish on the table.

If you have the courage, try using either of the two that I mentioned on a hard to see part of the table, such as the inside upper part of the table leg, or on the underside of an overhang.

I'll be on here for a bit longer and I'll watch this thread for a bit.

You might want to try lindseed oil. It may destroy and coating you have on the table though. If that doesn't work, blame it on the cats. If you don't have a cat, go get one real fast.

Try using the sharpened end of a toothpick to scrape the paint out of the wood grain. Good luck!

break the window next to the table and spread more paint in the floor and walls, and put some in a glass and brake it on the table spot.
Then it´s obvious that it was mede by some crazy vandals or terrorists, and you´re off the hook!
what do you think?

With friends like us, he will never get his problem solved. But at least his wife will kill him with a smile on his face.

Speaking of blaming it on the cat...

If you really need one in a pinch, I can FedEx on of mine to you, I've got house rodents to spare!

And Berny, how many guys can say that they live in a cathouse? Tongue [:P] Or that they're surrounded, 24/7, by p... I'd better not go there! Shy [8)]

Thanks a lot to all of you for the good advice.

I have almost got it all out, but that doesn´t save from taking my wife to a cozy place on saturday to make her forget.

Just wanted to check to see if: A-the paint came out; B-you'e still alive; C-You were able to convince the local constabulary that a cat broke into your house, trashed the dining room and ruined the table................with a straight face :) -Ed

Dilute some red brown (or just brown) with water (I'm assuming your table has a natural dark finish) and apply it to the table with a brush. It should cover the yellow traces. If it doesn't work, you couldn't find a cat and there's no way you can prove Hussein did it, go to furniture store and get a dinning table and that sofa your wife has always wished. No complains guaranteed!

NEXT TIME PUT DOWN A SHHET OF PLASTIC FIRST. BY THE WAY, ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED? THEN THIS WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO KISS YOUR A_S GOODBYE. THE SIGN ON MY FRONT LAWN READS; "FORGET THE DOG. WATCH OUT FOR THE BITCH IN THE KITCHEN." I'M SO FUNNY I CRACK MYSELF UP.

Before you do anything is the table varnish or urethane? If it is more than40 years old it is likely varnish, younger that that it is anybody guess. If it is varnish very fine steel wool with a little thinner soaked into it should do the trick, by very fine I mean 0000 at least. Then a lite coat of varnish to re-seal it should do the trick. If it is urethane soory dude but short of re-finishing the whole table top you are cooked!
Enjoy the couch!
