Does the clear coat have to be glass smooth or will just a little do?
Not glass smooth. Just enough. I usually do 2-3 light coats of gloss, not enough to be a gloss coat, more of a semi gloss. The amount of gloss needed will also depend on how smooth the current finish is.
Some reccomend a satin finish
