Painting Resin Bodies
Posted by BuildingCars4Fun on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 1:08 AM

Hello community - a question for you.

I'm about to build my first resin kit - do I need to do anything differnet in terms of prep, base coat / top coat etc compared to when I am painting styren / plastic?

Thanks!

Make sure to wash the parts as my experience is the mold release agents stick around and impact paint adhesion.  Also, sawing or sanding wear a mask.  Thin parts like joy sticks are extremely brittle so care in separating from the pour stubs.  Otherwise it's great to work with, easy to trim and sand and all paints I've tried work great - enamels, acrylics and oils. CA or epoxy are required for assembly.

Thanks,

John

Ditto on the thorough but careful washing.I also am able to use rattlecan primer without obscuring details,it levels right out.I have use diffrent paints, but am partial to Vallejo Model Color for their color range and ease of brush painting.
