Just a note here.
As some of you have deduced I am in the process of doing H.M.Vs 1/250 Andrea Doria/Stockholm paper models. Well, while doing this Grand lady I have run into somethng quite common with paper Models.
Firstly, in constructing this ship I made a mistake! Well,it wasn't really. The upgrade set contains thicker compressed paper Frames. They don't instruct you on which side of the lines on the center core they go on.
So she's 1/2" shorter than she should be! At least in paper, it doesn't seem that bad. In Plastic, a massive rework! Here's the thing, when using ANY of the glues recommended make sure when you apply it you use a sensible applicator and just get a thin sheen on the gluing surface (One side).
Then assemble the parts. Otherwise you'll end up with Mushy soft spots that you will see, creates rough spots later. Also make sure that you don't get the glue on your fingers!! My applicator is a skewer. That way, I can put a teeny spot of glue in a place that's hard to get to otherwise. All you do is put a button of glue on it and roll it on the contact surface. Make sure you don't leave any Blobs!
This is important. In many paper models you must laminate parts. Use as little of the glue as you can get away with. Remember you are using glue that contains water with paper. Be careful and your reward will be, if you've been careful, a great looking model of a non plastic model or, one in a scale you cannot get otherwise in plastic!
The thing I learned so far is, remember your skills curling ribbon on Christmas packages. It helps with the gluing in spots!
