That is about what I remember, and the cable itself was about a half inch.  In that case we would want something about .008.  That is the size of #32.  Something in that range should work well.  As I remember, those cables were usually a dark gray, not black.  A google image search for that engine gives lots of good photos.

Thanks all.  looks like the smaller of the two is the way to go.

I third. Ignition wires on radials are wrapped in a braided shield, well most aircraft ignition wires are, however they tend to look bigger than they really are. But yes a tad smaller for scale effect would be perfect. If I recall the nuts that tighten the leads to the plugs are 3/4 or bigger. You may want to leave a bump in the cylinder to represent the connection.

we're modelers it's what we do

I agree, go a bit smaller. I build a lot of cars and always use smaller wires for spark plugs. I can't stand when you see spark plug wire that look like they are battery cables.

Pulling up photos of the R2800 I'd say go a notch smaller. (Besides, for pretty much any scale detail, going slightly smaller usually helps 'sell' the scale effect.)

Cheers

Need some advice.  I want to add ignition wires to a 1/32 Corsair.   Not sure how much the pictures will help but what's a better option the 26 gauge or the 32 gauge?  Smaller or the bigger wire?   I don't want to drill anymore holes until the forum weighs in.
