weathering over an Alclad II finish
Posted by mass tactical on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 10:59 AM
Need some advise from you Alclad pros. Just painted a P 47 in Alclad II white aluminum and am very pleased with the results. Also did some panels in Tamiya flat aluminum and it looks right. I would like to weather this Jug but not sure how to proceed. What works best on Alclad? Sludge wash, oil wash etc? Should I airbrush Future prior to applying a wash?

Thanks for help!

It really will depend on the trype of result you want. If you use a wash with thinners or turpenoids in it, it may affect the Alclad. I did my Honda F1 engine with Alclad white aluminium and then a thinned enamel wash in order to get a dull oily look. Watercolours and inks will have no affect on the Alclad, neither does Tamiya Acrylics mixed with Windex or a soapy solution.

Sounds good. I am going for a lightly weathered look so I'll go with your recommendations. Thanks!
