Jon-A-Its;

         This thing has finally turned a corner.Thankfully This was said in one Museum brochure."No two lakers are Identical" they all have differences unique to them". This allows "Artistic License" That still fits with the project.

Hi Jon!

      Yeah, I guess you are right. It is a shame though that some  hard to get info for. Scratch building can be a buggerbear, But, if you are building something not well known, Paper-Models can supply an excellent go-by, and there hundreds of models to build, Not all ships and buildings either!

 At present I am scratch building the "Konig" a Dreadnaught build. She has the lines, but you can see where the ideas are changing! Using the 1/200 paper model for patterns, she is still a handful.

So all in all are they really worth it and if so why?

Well Yes, for these reasons:

Regard them as a head start on a scratch build.

It will drive you nuts and/or improve your skill sets considerably!

If you build one, someone will release it in Resin.

Build the Resin one, &  someone will release it in Plastic, (eventually).

You will know you have someething that no one else/few will have.

If it is the only game in town, the only choices are vac and stratch.  Although they can be a lot of work, they are still usually less work than a scratch-build.  3D printers are going to change that, but most of us do not have our printers yet

Vacu-Form Models--Are they worth the trouble?

Hi Ya'll!

      I ask this because, I am involved in one right now, It's a Great Lakes freighter. The Company had given very poor instructions and now it seems they are de-funct!. There was no info about "Lakers" readily available.

      Now there ARE Laker Museums. When asked for specific info all I get is stock publicity Photos Though.. Detail Photos seem very hard to find. Now I am sure the Plane guys have experienced this. Years ago I built a Pembroke by a Vac Company. Of course the info was there.

     Have any you had the same trouble? I have had less trouble with Resin Car Models, But with the cost I dropped them plus lousy customer servics and dependability where small parts were concerned. Now, Back to vac-Kits. There are not that many subjects that you can get in this medium compared to others. Now Lindberg put two models out with Big Vac hulls even going so far as to Doing one inside out! For the cost of that kit, I was glad I was building it for a client and didn't have to pay for it!

       So all in all are they really worth it and if so why?
