Just thought I would share a tip that maybe many of you already might be up on. Have you ever had to mix a color in a larger amount that is bigger than a regular Testors Model Master bottle? Testors liquid glue Bottles serve that purpose for me. They seal well too(This is important!) You may want to do a project way down the line, But you need that color you did five years ago.
As you well know,I have been working on a Great lakes frieghter for "Spring Creek Model Trains" owner Dave Zuicker. This has brought this habit to the fore. The particular ship is painted a light rust(Almost a dark Pink) all over. The complete deck, hatch covers and coamings and the whole hull. This is a waterline H.O.(1/87) scale Train Scale model.
It's easy to weather because I can get away with color mismatch and dark patches which lend authenticity to the color. No Great Lakes Freighter is the same color end to end unless they just left the yard! I have five glue bottles of the color in these ubitiqous Testors tall Glue Bottles. Some are ten uears old. Still tight,Yes settled, but after stirring, NOT shaking, it comes back to useability.
Then after one large drop of thinner Shake till your hand falls off(Nah, Just kidding there!) You need that hand to build the model! Let the paint sit for a day, then stir gently twice more during the week. It's not wasted movement either, I have about fifty of these bottles full of paint, I mixed for my 1/96 scale models(gees, they take up a lot of paint).
Surprisingly even being in freezing or extreme heat they don't seem to have lost the ability to be the covering I need. So Save those Bottles of Testors Liquid Glue, and the Bottles from Any other brand of glue that size. It will be noted that this is a must. They MUST HAVE the Metal Lids! The plastic lid will eventually fail right at the edge where the top meets the sides. This isn't a problem with metal. Another thing, I tried the packages of bottles that either Micheals or Hobby Lobby has, If you are not careful you wil wind up with plastic, topped Plastic bottles that don't seal well. So check them out carefully.
I think one of the things about the glue bottles is they have a Inner Seal /Brush holder you can remove the brush holder from and the remaining seal is of material that allows a very tight and secure seal. So, There you have it, Another rambling about model stuff from the old Tanker Builder! Build ON!!
