Pledge Alternative for Dipping Canopies
Posted by GovernorTarkin on Monday, April 3, 2023 8:12 AM

Hey all.

As outlined by FineScale Modeler here, I have previously dipped clear parts and canopies in Pledge Floor Gloss.

As of 2022, tt appears this product (and its many iterations) is finally fully off the market.

Can anyone recommend an affordable alternative for dipping clear parts and canopies? I have seen Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Finish recommended as a general gloss coat alternative to Pledge but not sure of its efficacy specifically for canopy dipping.

All the different things I have read on the subject have said the Quick Shine works as well as the Future for all purposes. Still have a little Future left so have not tried myself yet but seems to be good.

Have not found anything else anywhere that anybody has said work as well anyway.

I don't dip my canopies at all anymore because I don't like how it looks.  What I use instead is cotton gloves and a NOVUS plastic polishing kit.  I get much better results with that.

Yes, the Floor Coating Formerly Known As Pledge was discontinued completely.

I have see a recommendation for Quick Shine, too, from Jon Bius via his YouTube channel:

and I plan on trying this, though I haven't yet.  I actually still have half a bottle of Pledge-real Pledge, from around 1990-and I still use it.  I dip clear parts, and use it as a gloss coat before laying down decals. But I also use it as a gloss seal on my toy soldiers, and to make glazes.  So I am interested in Quick Shine, if it works like Future and is as reasonably priced.
