Re-Really Tiny Broke parts
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 11:28 AM

I told you I would Tell you more!

Some time back I was working on a Tug from Revell (Smit Rotterdam, I Think!) and the "Fireboat" at the same time. Tiny rails, Ladders and Mast parts. Some broken in the box and some broke no matter how gently I cut them from the sprue.

In the case of rails, the fix is easy. If a rail gets broken but not completely separated you can install it. Then come back with stretched Sprue and replace the missing rail sections if it's a Two or Three rail type. If the posts are gone run your stretched sprue from the next two posts. Then come back later, before painting, and measure where the missing post is supposed to be.

Take your cutter and make a cut(Make sure to keep it absolutely vertical for these cuts.) Then cut just a wee bit more away allowing you to place a post. Now see how the rails line up. If there's a end hanging overlong at the new post, cut a wee bit more away. The rail should then slip into place. Do this on both sides of the post. Using a flat toothpick and a tweezer see if the rails meet the post straight. if they do then Carefully using the tip of that toothpick put a drop of C/A at the joint between the post and rails.

One drop should drift around the post capturing the rail ends in it's flow. Let  it set up naturally(No accelerator or anything like that.) You, (Don't laugh) take a wee bit of moisture from your mouth(Spit) and place it on the C/A surface. That works great as a setting solution. And it evaporates quickly! Now continue till your repairs are done. Masts next time on this subject.      Bye Now! T.B.
