Stripping Paint off a Model

Don't know if it would work or not, but could you just sort of "Paint" the wings and fuselage with Super Clean and then wipe it off after it has dissolved the paint? I've never used it so I don't know how quickly it dries.

Appearently you can use oven cleaner to remove paint from plastic models. Just spray the stuff on and let it dry, then flake the paint off. I haven't tried it myself, but a friend of my swears by it.

When I use oven cleaner to remove paint, I prefer the brush on kind. You can put it only where you want it, if you are not trying to strip the whole model.

casterol super clean is a concentrate so if you paint it on it will take the paint off. i have a stainless steel vay that is used on salad bars that i use for ships & it takes only a short peroid of time to strip paint.i prefer this over oven cleaner because super clean can be recycled & used again.

I perfer CSC ( Castrol Super Clean- Degreaser) It is less caustic then oven cleaner and works even better. Less mess and such. You can get a gallon at wal-mart for $6.00 which will last you a good while. CAUTION - ALWAYS WEAR RUBBER GLOVES!!!! Latex doesn't work. It while suck the oils out of your hands so the skin can tend to crack and bleed. But this won't happen if you WEAR YOUR RUBBER Gloves. Eye Goggles wouldn't hurt either.
Also keep in mind this stuff with take of acrylics, enamels and chrome plated parts. Most in 24 hours or less. And if you leave it in for a month it won't hurt the plastic. I get two cup strainer for $1.00 at family dollar and have a plastic butter bowl. I but the cup strainer in the butter bowl. Then all my small pieces I put in the strainer the cover with CSC-Degreaser. Cover and wait a day. Come back and it rubs right off with a toothbrush. So have fun. Oh, one more tip if you have certain glues over the paint like super glue, scrape it off first b/f putting in container it won't strip paint pinned down by some glues.

I have used CSC to take paint off of a windshield (car) with success. However, I was using acrylics and didn't leave it in the CSC very long (maybe 5 minutes). The window came out fine and the old paint just wiped off.

Sorry, not sure what would happen if you leave it longer than that. I'd recommend dropping a spare clear part in the CSC and seeing what happens.

I'm not too sure about clear parts with CSC as I've never used it on clear (model kit parts at least), but CSC did not harm the clear plastic toothbrush I used to scrub the regular parts with. I do believe Bonedigger speaks of clear parts in his CSC review, if I remember right. Hope this thread helps, I went through the same thing not too long ago.-Cheers

I found something in my local hobby store the other day. Its calle easy lift off by pollyscale and it doesn't do a bad job of getting the paint off. Don't know how it goes with clear parts though. No matter what you end up using I'd remove the canopy just to be safe or test some on an old canopy to see what affect it has. good luck.
