I have used both and have been going with Swanny's suggestion of the White putty. Though in all honesty I don't like either of them. I prefer to use a liquid correction pen....unless the gap is too large, in which case I use the white putty.

I've used both Squadron White Putty and Tamiya Basic Putty, and they both stink. They both stink differently, but in the end, they will stink. I think I'm pretty clear on it...

As for quality, I find that Squadron's Whte Putty shrinks a little more than Tamiya's, so I prefer to use Tamiya. The only downside of Tamiya is that it's grey, and such, you'll need a primer coat or an extra coat of paint if the paint is light coloured (ie light blue or white).

Depending on the application, I've used Gel CA as a filler for several things. The best thing about it is that it doesn't react with plastic, so there's no fear of distortion - even on the thinnest of parts. I also use it nearly exclusively when applying PE parts.

Do any of you use thick C/A for filler ?
I have been using it and love it, it's more trouble to sand but it won't shrink and is tough as nails.

White is indeed finer than the green and slightly easier to feather edges when sanding. I prefer the white.

Me too. I was standing there in my LHS with a tube in each hand.... "white or green, white or green, white or green, white or green, white or green" and finely told myself awww screw it and bought both.

The white putty is supposedly a little finer grain than the green, but like Robert, I don't see much difference between them.

RODC,

There's no such thing as a stupid question...and all that. Big Smile [:D]

I believe that there is no difference other than color between the two. I've used both and they have identical labels, smell the same (stink), and act exactly the same. I tend to use the putty that give me the greatest contrast...white putty on dark plastic and green putty on light plastic.

I just picked up a tube of Squadron White Putty from my LHS. They also had Squadron Green Putty there as well and both seemed to do the same thing. Other than color, is there a difference??? I plan to use the putty for filling seams and want to make sure it is a good product before I de-package it!

Thanks for any help and I apologize now for my possible brain cramp....
