Black may be better for showing imperfections but Future does show them.

I wonder though-- with the black primer coat down, won't you spot the imperfections that you might need to sand or whatever better, or does the Future show these as well?

Well, I bit the bullet and tried Future sans a black background coat. I used a Hassegawa P 51D (newer mold) , which has no fit problems, as my test subject. Prior to Futureing, I polished everything out with Novus #2 and then used Windex to clean off the residue. I then went with Future, a couple of light coats, and then set it aside to cure for 72 hours before using Alclad 2 aluminum. I compared the results with a test kit where I had used Krylon gloss black as the background color and the finish looks the same. Perhaps on a larger scale model one might be able to see a difference. In any case, I highly recommend going with a Future base for the regular Alclad shades. The only downside, that I can see, is the Future cure time.

Rick: Thanks. Have you tried Future only without the black undercoat?

I've used Future over a black undercoat and then used Alclad2 over the Future with no problems and good results. I let it cure for about 48 hours before spraying the Alclad2. This was the basic Aluminum color. Haven't tried it with any of the other shades.

Looking for comments and advice from those who have used Future as a base coat for Alclad. I have used Kryon primers but I find that these primers tend to hide detail particularly on 1/72 scale aircraft. If you have had good luck with Future, I would like to know the cure time you used prior to using Alclad. Thanks for help!
