Canopy seams...tamed!!!
Posted by knight667 on Friday, June 25, 2004 10:10 AM
So I did a lot of reading here and at ARC and I was starting to freak out at the prospect of tackling canopy seams on my Hasegawa kits (F-14 and 2 F-16s). So I picked up a $1.99 3-grit emery board and some Colgate toothpaste, just as described in the articles and posts.

It worked!!!! I need to refine my technique a little bit, but by golly it worked! My canopy now has no seam and is just about as clear as it was when I started!

Just thought I'd share my revelation. Big Smile [:D]

saltydog,

Don't remember where I read it, but basically you use a 3-grit emery board (I got mine for $1.99 at Bi-Mart). Start with the roughest grit and work your way down. Once you're done, get a non-gel toothpaste (I use regular white Colgate) or plastic polish and buff the now-gone seam area. Once that's done it's recommended you do a couple treatments with Future to get a good shine and overall coverage (but I don't bother, I hate working with Future...just me).

Ah ha, now I remember where I saw it...here.

Hope that helps!

Sensitive toothpastes are usually designed especially to fill micro-gaps (which is often what causes the tooth sensitivity) so it's even better, if more expensive.

finally!!! that answer to my AH-65 dilemma that has forced it to the confines of the shelf as I had been intimidated by the large vertical canopy seam!

I had got the top of the canopy like that in the article quite by accident... but now feel emboldened to go forward with the rest! AND, I have the canopy of the previous HH-65 I was building to practice on!!!
