Swanny recommended Patra trim tape a while back for this kind of thing. I bought some yellow and black, and it worked very well. I comes in paper-backed rolls with six or seven different widths. Just cut with a sharp hobby knife and apply.

Pactra tape comes in several different colors.

You can also try making your own decals from masking tape. I've done this before with Tamiya masking tape, which is pretty thin, and it works fine. Just stick the tape to a mirror, airbrush the desired color, and then cut the stripes with a hobby knife.

If you have a hobby mini drill then you could try putting a missile in the chuck and set it turning. Then get a thin brush with a dab of the correct colour on and hold it to the missile, hey presto ,a nice neat line going around it . I have tried it loads of times and it works for me.

Thanks for the offer Paul, and the reminder. I have that kit also in the garage and forgot that it had that sheet. I appreciate your help my friend.

Mike:

The photo you posted is of live AAMRAMs. If they weren't . Then all the stripes would be blue, or the missle body itself would be blue with no stripes at all.

I have a set of the 1/48 Hasegawa Weapons Set C In the stash. It has a bunch of yellow and brown stripes on the decal sheet for the various missles in the set.

Seeing as I don't use them and usually paint the stripes on mine when I do these. You are welcome to the sheet if you like.

Just drop me an e-mail if you are interested and I can have them in the mail to ya.

Hope this helps

I remember doing all of the "No Step" ones on the F-14 I built years ago.
What a chore. It takes great patience sometimes to build models doesn't it?

This one had a bunch of "No Step" decals to. I though they were tedious until I got to these missiles. It has some stripes that go all the way around, some that go 1/4 around in between the fins, some little bitty ones that fold over the fins, plus associated lettering and markings. Did I mention that I'm getting sick of looking at them?

Thankfully I took the advice of the guys in the aircraft forum and didn't use the dual Shrike launchers on each wing. What a mess of decals! Did I mention that I'm getting sick of looking at them?

Yeah, it takes a lot of patience sometimes Smile [:)]

Yeah, it's a 1/32 scale. I figured cutting them wouldn't be a problem so I didn't even mention it.

Speaking of these decals I have NEVER been so sick of putting on decals! The two AGM-78's have 41 decals EACH and the two AGM-45's have 24 each. Some of them are so close together I have to put one or two on, add setting solution, let them sit an hour or so. It seems like I've been working on them forever and I'm only about halfway down them!

Thanks Scott.

Isn't your F-105 a 1/32 scale?
Those stripes would be too big for 1/48, but I could cut them down with an X-acto.

Can't help with the brown ones, but I've got some yellow if you need them.

Scott,

Actually I am going to need two colors I believe if this photo has the correct stripe colors for a live missile.

I may have some yellow stripes around here somewhere but I am going to have to get the other color elsewhere unless I have something here I don't know about. Wink [;)]

TwoBobs does the decals for the Trumpeter F-105, and there are two sheets; one for the plane and one for the ordnance. The ordnance sheet has a bunch of yellow stripes, I haven't counted them but there are a BUNCH of them.

How many do you need? I'm not going to build the bombs so I should have some left over.

Stripes on AMRAAM missiles
Posted by MikeV on Monday, July 5, 2004 1:52 PM
My SOL resin AMRAAM missiles I bought from Squadron do not have any decals with them so I was wondering how I would go about doing the stripes on them?
Do they sell decal sheets with solid colors or stripes or something?
I know they used to but I am not sure what's out there now as it's been a while since I looked at those kinds of sheets.
I don't want to paint the stripes as that never comes out as good as decals do.
Any input is appreciated. Wink [;)]

Thanks

Mike
