Tinting Model Autoglass with Future
Posted by rodc on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 6:15 AM
Hi,

I am currently finishing a 66 Ford Fairlane and decided I wanted to tint the autoglass using a mixture of Future and food colouring similar to what some of the aircraft modelers do for cockpit canopies. The Future dip looks good and I have a slightly blue tinted set of "glass" to add to my Fairlane.

The question I have is......once I install the glass and complete the model, I intended to spray Future over the entire build for a nice gloss finish. Will the gloss coat of future "lift" the color from my tinted winshield and side glass???

If anyone has any thoughts, I would really appreciate hearing them.

Thanks....

I've only used that technique on smaller parts such as lights on aircraft. but I haven't had any problems with subsequent coats of Future causing the tinted parts to dissolve. I don't think it will cause any problems, but if you are concerned you could mask it with some Post-It Note paper or something low-tack like that.
