the best time to do model kits
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 15, 2004 10:02 PM
the best time to do a model kit is in summer.when you done putting on decals, put the model dierectly in the sun.that also works with paints!leave them out there for about for about 2 or 3 hours to sit.than leave in a humid place like the grauge.leave it over night and then in the morning bam it's done!it really works in hot countrys like the southern USA.good luck -brad

As long as the sun doesn't get so hot it melts the plastic! Shock [:O]

Ah yes, but the summer humidity can be an enemy. Actually, I do most of my modeling during the winter months. Here in SE Michigan there aint much else to do as I'm far to brittle to go skiing.

I am not sure I want to leave my model to dry outside in the 106 degree heat!Shock [:O] That could be bad!
I think the humidity here is hmmmmmmmmm, -10. Fires every where.

Sunny and smoky California!Big Smile [:D]

All year long, but most often in the evenings, to relax a little after the office. When I have a whole day, I prefer to start really early in the morning.

I say fall and winter. Here in Missouri we get extremely hot summers and very cold winters. It is very diverse weather here. Thats why I like doing i in fall and winter. I'm more of hot weather person. Cold makes me stay inside, and what better to do than models.

All year round...mornings, afternoons, evenings...7 days a week, 340 days a year (you've got to take a few days off now and then).

Enjoy your modeling...

As much as I can...but summers are better for me. One of the few perks of being a teacher.... course I am a father of a one year old, so I squeeze time in between naps Wink [;)] But I definitely get more done in summer when I am not swamped with any work...

I also model year round with no down times. I usually spend 15-20 hours per week modeling, mostly in the evenings after the kids have gone to bed. I also find this a great time to paint because the wind has died down and theres less dust in the air. Plus when I'm done I just shut the door to my workshop and go to bed. That way I'm not tempted to continue checking on the progress of my paint drying. I paint my models in a large storage container. Every time I open the lid to look, dust gets in there.

As far as I'm concerned, any time that you can spend in this great hobby, IS THE BEST TIME.

1.) When you haven't just had a couple beers, wines, whiskeys or any combination of the above...
2.) When you haven't just had a fight with She Who Must Be Obeyed...
3.) When it not 3 in the morning and registration for the contest is 6 hours away...
4.) When there isn't the likelihood of the power going out...
5.) When your not supposed to be getting ready for a dinner with the in-laws...(leads to #2)

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I don't know how many veterans are here in these forums, but thanks to those who are here..
My favorite time is in the morning after a cup of coffee, take the dog out, read the news on line, and get to work.. give myself about 45 minutes by waking up early in the morning and before work..., sometimes even while I am nekkid!! hehehe, you know you are passing through the room and its like man, that little piece needs to be glued on... Whenever I have the free time and all my other responsibilities are taken care of, at least for a little while, then I try to get a little something done on whatever my current project may be.

i would go nuts if there were a modelling "season"!!! i just stick my decaled and painted bird under a 100W reveal bulb in an adjustable lamp down close to the subject. i works nicely, except on alclad!! it will crack it if its not cured properly. later.

Any time is a good time. I do most of my work on the weekends. Late on Friday nights, then early Saturday mornings. I have to spend the daytime hours with SHE WHO MUST BE OBEIED. But I get to do some more on Sunday mornings.

Later in the evenings is my favourite time. Once the kids have gone to bed and my domestic responsibilities (cleaning the dishes etc) have been completed, I can retire to my modeling room with a clear conscience.

The only variable is my choice of beverage, in winter its a scotch or red wine and in summer an icy cold beer. Big Smile [:D]

I try to use the seasons to build an assembly line of models. I try to do the construction and detailing during the winter when it is cold and I can't get out to airbrush as much. Then when summer comes around, I have a bunch of kits to airbrush and finish. I'm hoping to get about 4-5 kits done in the next month before things really start to cool down. Of course, I should probably get off this forum and start working on them ... they won't finish themselves... got to go!
