Painting the grid would be the easy part on a figure. Inside some of the blocks on the grid are little tiny "Eagle, Globe and Anchors," in real life they are only about 3/8" tall. The U.S.M.C. got the idea for the camo originally from the Germans who tried a similar thing in WW II, but the Corps' current camo is computer generated.
There was talk of removing the "Eagle, Globe and Anchor" from production cammies, but on the early/test ones, they are definately on. Someone with more current info may know if they are still there.
