Gluing track links together
Posted by yw18mc on Saturday, August 28, 2004 1:28 PM
I'm sitting here this morning wanting very much to complete the assembly of my SWS SCHWERER German Halftrack. Problem is I just keep having my track links come apart everytime I try for final assembly? My question, is there a preferred glue for assembling individual tracks? I have been using TENAX-7R with the idea that it allows for faster assembly, but I'm wondering if maybe I should use TESTORS plastic cement in the interest of a stronger bond, but longer setting time! I appreciate any thoughts on this therory, or em I just being to clummsy with my assembly ? Any comments welcome. semper fi, mike

Mike,
i have only one set of Indy's under my belt.
they were Tamiya's set for the Panther,
and i used Tamiya's extra thin cement (liquid).

it has held up ok so far.

Tenax is pretty strong in my experience,
so maybe the material of your links is somewhat resistant to it?
i have had some kits that are nearly impervious to the Tamiya cement
(like my Hasegawa Me163), so i think there may be some different 'formulas'
for styrene and different brands of liquid will work differently.
i have no hard data, but that is my suspicion.
if you have another liquid cement handy (MM, Pro-Weld, Tamiya)
give it a go.

good luck

Thanks for yell back (WILDWILLIAM) Ed.
I probably should have posted in the armor section, but I thought I might get some different perspectives here on techniques. I think it's fair to say that you just have to kind of experiment with different adhesives when working with styrenes. The good news is that I finally got all my tracks assembled and have painted them, and I'm currently doing a little dry brush work on the tracks. Thanks for your ideas on glue and plastic appreciate the feedback. semper fi, mike
