which is finer?

Now that is an interesting question that I never gave any thought to. Apparently no one else has either as I see lots of people have read this and not written anything. I have used toothpaste but not the Tamiya polishing compound so I am not sure... the toothpaste did the trick for me on clear plastic parts. Hopefully someone with more expertise in this area will help us out with your question...

I don't usually do cars so polishing isn't high on my list but I picked up a set of polishing pads in the car section of one of my LHS's. This goes up to 15,000 grit. You can polish out clear parts with this even better than the original. Works as well dry as wet.

I accidentally sprayed a canopy black . I used these and then dipped in future, better than new.

im looking for some of those pads but have had no lluck yet....

Tamiya has a new line of polishing compounds. course, fine and finish I think they're called. The finish stuff is probably the best way to polish a high gloss finish. Thye aren't cheap though.

I think the polishing pads you're talking about are micromesh. It should be available somewhere on the net. Just do a search.

yeah u can get them at micromark.com, its just that i wanna get em locally.....and if i start ordering from micromark i got a feeling that my credit card will get maxed out real fast ;) thewres just so much cool stuff there!!

Use meguires mirror glaze for plastics, it comes in different grades and is perfect for canopies and clear parts!!

A paste mixture made with cornstarch and water is also a good polishing compound. Back in the 60's and 70's many of the custom car painters ( full sized cars ) used that for final buffing to get rid of swirls.

I do not use either.. What i do is polish it out after each coat of clear from 3200 grit to 12000 grit polishing cloths and then after the last one ( i do this 3 times and after each time going through the grits i clear coat again) i then use Clear one more time and i shoot 3 coats for the final coat and that make it look like a toy car.

Pluse look through all the folders and you will see my F/W Roadster that one is on the first stage of it not even close to being done when its done you will see the motor in the fire wall like a mirrer
