Is this a good product?

After being away from the hobby for a number of years I have found that some of my old stand bys are gone. I used to use Testors non-buffing Metalizer for some of my aircraft bare skin finishes but was told by the guy at the shop that it's getting hard to find.
He recommened a paint called Alclad II. Called it the best thing since sliced bread. I bought a couple of bottles, Aluminum and dark aluminum to do my bare 1/72 scale WWII fighter metal with.
He also advised to prime with a product called Mr. Surfacer 500.

Are these good choices? Would anyone have any tips or advice about using them?

A lot of guys swear by Alclad. I haven't used it much myself, still on the first bottle, so I can't really say. It is supposedly much more durable than Testors and can be masked, handled, whatever you need to do. I use a lot of Testors as well, but it isn't that durable.

PS ... I prefer Beretta myself Smile [:)]

Yeah, those are good products and you should have little problems using them.

A great product. You might consider using gloss black paint for a primer though.

Mr. Surfacer is a great primer, it dries quickly and you get a smooth and hard, durable surface. I've been using it for months now. Take note, though, that it's lacquer-based and so I only airbrush it. If you have health issues with lacquer you can try enamel- or better yet acrylic-based primers. I think for Alclad II metallics the suggested primer color is gloss black, but the experts can give you better advice on this. Hope this helps.

Sounds good. I may take the advice on the black paint for primer. I read a build review on a P-47 where the builder used it and had great results. And he should know seeing how his level of experiance looks to be much greater than mine.

I've been using Alclad2 for quite a while & it is the best NMF paint available IMHO. You will get best results using a gloss black primer. Although grey can be used, the NMF will look more oxidized than over the gloss black. The model in my sig was done with Alclad2 over gloss black.
