Scribing panel lines

i use dymo tape, the stuff for the old labeling guns. I cut a suitable length, stick it down in place and use it as a guide to gently run against, very  gently.

Get the UMM scribe tool and watch the video on the internet .Its the best scriber in the world.Winners of nationals use this tool.John Vojteck 

Dymo tape works well.  I also use short sections of vacuum cleaner belt, cut to various widths and lengths.

Typically, i will plus up the thickness of Frogtape by placing a few strips together, then trim the edges with a new #11 blade, ensuring a crisp edge, then i will place the tape around the fuselage where the line is to be scribed, and VERY very gently scribe the line with multiple passes using a Trumpeter Panel Line Scriber against the crisp edge of the tape. Once the panel line is where i want it to be, i remove the tape, run a quick sanding stick over the line to ensure the edges are flat to the surrounding area, and Voila... done.

I use thin brass....often left from a photo-etched part tree....binds around things....hold it with fingers or tape the ends.......works well for me......

Silver, on your recommendation i just bought the UMM scribing tool . 

The thing works  amazingly well ,with practice, and there's very little build up of the edges of the panel lines to clean up. Cool how it curls up the scribed plastic out of groves it makes. Instead of plowing a line it actually cuts or planes the panel lines. All my other scribers are hunting for an alternate use now .
