Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 9:26 PM
just a quick qustion..
i wanna get in the habit of wet sanding and just wanna know if i could use a tub of water and dunk the part in it every so often? or would this defeat the purpose of wet sanding coz ill be using dirty water?

provided that the water isnt too dirty and the part isnt brilliant white, dunking in slightly dirty water should not be a problem. perhaps wiping the water off with a tissue might remove the crud without fouling the water. remember that the purpose of wetsanding is to prevent clogging, so if its a little cruddy you can always rinse it later.

That ought to work just fine. I just hold whatever it is I'm sanding under a faucet with a steady drip. With the cost of water going up in my community I might was well run it under liquid gold! Ha-ha-ha!

I do it the other way, by wetting the sandpaper not the model. Wetting the sandpaper will help remove sludge from the grit. I wipe the model with a rag or paper towel as required.

I also do it the way Rick does, keep a small bowl of water handy and tip the sanding medium from time to time.

Actually that's the way I was taught to do it adn the way I have always seen it done in books.
