It works well if there is nothing under it. I've had it lift paint a bit (granted it was acrylics over a really glossy lacquer, but still). The thing I like about it it is doesn't seem to dry out. I masked something almost a year ago, forgot about it, pulled it out the other day, and the mask lifted off in one smooth piece--it didn't crumble.
