Concrete Airfield pan
Posted by ADleitch on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 5:05 AM
Hi Guys, looking to make a couple of concrete airfield pans to display my completed kits on. My question, can anyone remember where the sizes of the concrete slabs can be found? I remember reading a how to in Finescale and for the life of me can't find it again. What I need is the approx sizes in different scales i.e 1/24, 1/32 and 1/48.

Thanks everyone

What I did, was just rule 1" squares on the surface.
They seem to look ok for 1/72 to 1/72
Have a look at

The Spearhead, Arrowhead, MT68 all use the same piece of MDF as a base and the slabs look ok for both the scales

Hey leitch,

There was an article in the Fine Scale 20th Anniversary Issue, titled, "Modeling Roads and Runways" on pg. 90 by Ed Gilbert. There's a box at the bottom of the first page of the article giving the maximum dimensions for concrete slabs in the most common aircraft scales from 1/24 right on down to 1/144. Hope this helps. If you can't find this issue, let me know and I'll run off a copy or scan it and send it to you.

The Airfield that I work on has two sizes, approx 8x8 feet & 10x8 feet, I'll leave you to do the maths!
