Question on disk propellers.
Posted by howdidyoudothat on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 12:39 PM
Anyone able to lead me to a supplier for disk props or to a thread on how to make them? I check here and with the search engine but was unable to find any info.

Thanks in advance, Bill.

Paul Boyer had a feature in the October 2003 issue of FSM called "Simulate spinning propellers" that could probably be of some use to you. If you don't have your copy of that issue, you can always buy a back issue here through the website.

Otherwise, I'm sure other members of the forum could offer some suggestions.

Thanks guys, Bill.

Its actually pretty easy
cut the disk to size, spin it once on a drill sand disk, or spin it lightly on sandpaper. the trick is just to put small circular scratches on the disk.
lay your motion mask over the disk and spray lightly, you want a little heavier coverage in the middle and less on the edges.
let it cure and cover the mask in a way to leave open areas where you have prop stripes, spray a light coat over the stripes area.
let dry, remove the mask and lightly dry brush the scratches on the rest of the disk and there you go.
I also take the actual kit prop and cut it down to a tappered stub, it gives it a "thickness" at the hub.
