painting Sidewinder rollerons

Hello group. Asking for help on how best to paint those pesky rollerons on 1/48 and 1/72nd scale missiles. In particular, I have the missiles for a Hassegawa F-16 which have no engraved rollerons. Was thinking that one way would be to paint clear tape steel color and then cut out individual pieces to simulate the rollerons and then stick them on the missiles. Any other good ideas will be appreciated
