I have been using this trick for sometime now. I normally do not let the putty dry before wipping the area with nail polish remover.

I haven't used the method in a while now since going to fix-a-porc and Mr. Surfacer though. Less shrinkage this way.

Does you guys use the acetone before or after the putty is dried?

I'll have to file this one away for future use...thanks for sharing it with us.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

According to his post:
QUOTE: Acetone free nail polish remover

So which is it? At first I thought about what you two said, having the acetone eat away at the putty, but if it's acetone free, then it might be the grain in the putty that is doing the sanding?
I'm just curious, as I've come accross this sanding problem quite often recently, and need a solution that works well.

Have to agree with rick, this technique is not new and also commonly used by large scale figure modelers.

Carefully applied Acetone will also help smoothen putty out over a seam and thus make cleanup easier and quicker.

Anyway thanks for the post, it is always good to share techniques and I found many that with a bit of modification can be used for any subject or genre.

You're not actually sanding. The nail polish remover contains Acetone which is a thinner for the putty. The acetone is dissolving & removing the putty from the surface, but will leave it in the seam to be filled. This is an old technique for us Aircraft guys, but a goodie. Thanks for the post.

Hey everybody!

Not sure if anybody els has tried this but, I found this method and tried it out it works great. Here's what you need:

Q-tips
Acetone free nail polish remover
Tamiya putty (works best with tamiya I have discovered)

here is a gap in a figure. I cant sand it because of the shape.

first apply the putty. You dont have to warry about being to careful, but be as neat as possible.

After the Putty has dried dip the Q-tip into the nail polish remover. The more nail polish remover you have on thee swab, the more the putty will be sanded.

Sometimes You might have to scrub harder than other times but your end result is an evenly sanded line!

Hope you like it. I have found it to be a neccesity!
