I use Testors tube glue, Testors liquid in the black bottle, Elmers glue, ca thick and thin. and expoxy. For me, it all depends on what the work requires that determines the type of glue I'll use.

I use Tenax 7R for assembling major parts like wings & fuselages. Model Master liquid cement, Ca & occassionally epoxy for everything else except canopies. Canopies, I use Krystal Kleer.

Here are the glues that I use:
1.) Tamiya thin and standard Cement.
2.) White glue
3.) 2-part Epoxy glue(different setting times)
4.) CA (but not very often)

I prefer liquid glues over most other types. The wings fell off of my 109E3 when I used the ca. Tube glue is way too stringy for my liking so I do'nt use much of that either. I use Weldon 3, Testors or Faller Experten. That last one is something I found at a now defunct hobby shop in Palmsprings in 1996.

IMHO, there is no one glue that is right for every assembly. As stated, white glue is great for clear parts when you can get by with less than maximum holding strength. As far as major assembly work, there are many options. Testors Liquid Cement in the bottle with the brush is good but I have recently started using Ambroid Pro Weld for wing and fuselage joining as it drys very fast and is strong. You get almost no glue outside of the joint which you usually do with other glues. For smaller parts I like Model Master Liquid Cement for Plastic Models which has the needle. Although it does not dry fast, it bonds very well. Tube glue is also good for those small parts when applied with a toothpick.

I have been modeling for about 8 years but am still quite new to the forum and don't know if I am qualifyed to answer your questions, but I will tell you what worked well for me. Well first of all for plastic I use testors glue, both liquid and tube type ( the liquid kind has the capilary ( wiking) action you say you like. I do not know if you have heard that this glue works best if there is no paint ,oil or other residue on the surface to be joined, this can be acomplished by gluing before finishing or (that is not always possible even if you prefer to build that way) sanding or scraping the paint off. Because the glue actualy melts the plastic together (this is also called a weld sometime), these glues are good to use when you need a strong bond. For parts that do not require a strong bond, have somthing to do with clear parts or need to be attached to a finished model, normal school glue works well, it drys like clear gloss so be careful for excess glue on a flat-painted surface. I belive the "canpoy glue" you refer to is probably testors or kristal kleer which I think is just thined school glue (also called "white glue"). The advantage of this stuff is that you can make small "windows" with it. I have also used the CA or super glue you speak of because of the price I generaly just buy the household kind available at the super market. Another very nice thing to have is super-glue acelerator, this dries the glue almost instantly. Now that I think you probably know about this because you said you liked CA glues so much. I hope this info hleps you,and if it does not someone else can.

types of glues

I was wondering on the benefits of different types of glue. What does everyone use out there. I have tried just about everything I think. I am stuck on using ca thin, med, and thick. I love the wicking action of thin. I also find I can remove any excess ca with a sharp razor. On the canopies I bought some canopy glue, but it doesn't seem to hold, so I use white glue with good success.

I tried using the styrene glues but found they ate my finish, especially if a bit oozed out of the pieces I was joining.

Any good gluing tips out there?
