Sign - Ditto [#ditto] with Model Musuem! I have used sanding sticks, emory boards, and sandpaper ranging from 440 to 8000 grit. Use the tool that best gets the job done. Smile [:)]

I use sanding pads, standing sticks, sanding blocks, files, diamond files and sandpaper(both paper and fabric backed).

Most of those can be used for wet and dry sanding. Simply use what works best and what fits the requirements the best.

My Mantra:
"There is no right or wrong tool/answer in modeling, use whatever gets the job done."

But than I got views that go against the mainstream modeling community ideas of how things should be done. Wink [;)]

Hi,

wet sanding is simply keeping a bowl of water handy and moisten your sandpaper regularly to prevent clogging. Concerning files vs sandpaper, as said above, often a file is too coarse, then use sand paper. On the other hand it is difficult to sand something to
a flat surface with sandpaper, in which case it is better to start with a file.

HTH,

Christian.

I tend to use sanding sticks & Micomesh sanding pads in various grits. Rarely use sandpaper.

I personally use both files and paper. I guess the main thing is that for some applications a file may be too coarse. For flash specificly, I use my exacto. The back of a no. 11 blade works great for removing flash.

As far as wet sanding, it makes the sand paper last longer than it would dry, and it also keeps the sanding dust to a minimum. Makes for easier cleanup.

I hope this answers your questions.

Hello friends.
I have read around, (even in these forums) that most (if not all) of you use fine sandpaper to sand the flash off parts.
Personally I have always been using a file set (Fine Diamond 10pc modeling file set)
What is so good about sandpaper (I mean I would guess that you dont have as much control with sandpaper, and how would you use it in tight, hard to reach places Wink [;)])
Also, if you guys could explain what exacly is the "wet sanding" method and what are the benefits as for using it.
Thanks
