Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 22, 2005 7:38 AM
looks like I'm going to be snowed in for a couple days an I'm out of model glue.... is it safe to use the superglue gel without the fear of damaging the plastic.?????

can't help ya with the superglue question Geoff... just amazed yall have so much snow up in Elkridge! I was stationed in Bethesda for 8 yrs and only saw that kind snow once anywhere within 75 miles of me! Good luck to ya and stay off the roads! Have a bad road related memory of that same above mentioned snow storm in 1988...

CA will not damage plastic chemically, but if you get it where you don't want it, it's a bear to clean up.

CA will try rock hard and is a bear to sand cleanly once it is dried, you are more likely to remove plastic from the surounding area than removing any CA.

So long as you don't use it on/in or near clear plastic it works just fine.

Super glues are fine, but don't apply them from the container. Put a drop on a card, sheet stock, scrap of plastic, whatever, and apply a smaller drop with a toothpick, a piece of fine wire, stretched sprue, etc.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

actually, soaking in acetone will remove the superglue. however, it takes a loooooooong time and if you applied the CA liberally it takes an even longer time.

What part of the model are you gluing? A major joint? A low stress point? You may have a couple options available.
